Young Driver Faces Suspension After Online Misstep
Florida, St. Petersburg, USAWed Mar 18 2026
NASCAR has put 22‑year‑old Daniel Dye on hold for an indefinite period, saying he must complete sensitivity training before racing again. The same decision came from Kaulig Racing, Dye’s team, after they saw his recent social‑media remarks.
Dye was running the full 2026 season in the Craftsman Truck Series for Kaulig’s new Ram Truck line, driving the #10. He had started the year with mixed results: 17th, 13th, and 17th place finishes. In addition to the Trucks, he was also racing in a few O’Reilly Auto Parts Series events with Am Racing.
The controversy began during a live stream on Whatnot, where Dye was showing off trading cards while chatting with IndyCar driver David Malukas. Dye admitted he didn’t know much about Malukas and asked if the driver raced on ovals, a question that upset the Penske driver. In response, Dye began mocking Malukas with a homophobic tone.
Brent Crews, another NASCAR driver on the stream, left when this happened and was not disciplined. Malukas has yet to say anything publicly about the incident.
In a statement, Dye apologized for his comments and said he had “careless words” that offended people. He explained that he has LGBTQ+ friends who would not appreciate being hurt by his remarks, and he pledged to learn from the experience. He said he will educate himself, listen more, and act with respect in the future.
NASCAR’s ruling means Dye cannot race until he completes the required training and shows he can handle his platform responsibly. The situation highlights how off‑track behavior can impact a driver’s career and the importance of respectful communication.
