Young Filmmakers Shine Through Latino Film Institute's Youth Program

Los Angeles, USAMon Oct 20 2025

The Latino Film Institute is doing something amazing. They are giving young people a chance to share their stories. This group, started by actor Edward James Olmos, thinks every student has a unique tale to tell.

A Student's Journey

One of those students is Issac Flores. He was just 16 when he joined the Youth Cinema Project. This program helps students who might not otherwise get a chance to shine in the film industry.

"The program opened doors I didn't even know existed. It's not just about making films. It's about showing what's possible in the film industry."

The program connects students with mentors, giving them a behind-the-scenes look at different jobs in filmmaking.

Creating Latino Stories

Thanks to the Youth Cinema Project, Flores made his own film. He's now more driven than ever. His goal is to create more Latino stories and increase Latino representation in the film industry.

"The stories have always been there. Now, it's up to my generation to tell them."

Programs Offered

The Youth Cinema Project offers four different programs:

  • YCP Signature
  • YCP AfterSchool
  • YCP Summer
  • CTE Film Production Pathway (a two-course sequence following CTE Arts, Media, and Entertainment standards)

Empowering Young People

This program is more than just a film school. It's a way to empower young people, giving them the tools and support they need to succeed.

The Latino Film Institute is making a real difference. They are helping to create the next generation of filmmakers.
