You're a young Latiné immigrant in the United States during the 2020 presidential election. How do you make sense of all the information out there? And how do you find your place in this big country? That's what we wanted to know. We talked to 39 young people with immigrant backgrounds to understand how they used media during this election. Turns out, social media played a huge role in shaping their views and actions. They used it to fight against false news, redefine what community means, and take control of their civic identity.
It's like they were saying, "We're here, we care, and we're going to make our voices heard. " Isn't that cool? By questioning what they saw in the media, they became more informed and active citizens. They even rethought what it means to be part of a democracy. It's a powerful reminder that our voices and actions matter, no matter where we come from.
