Eruv
Enclosure allowing activities normally prohibited on Shabbat
Summary
An eruv is a ritual halakhic enclosure made to allow Orthodox Jews to carry objects outdoors, which is normally prohibited on Shabbat. With an eruv, Jews can carry their house keys, tissues, medication, babies, and other objects, and can use strollers and canes – all of which are otherwise forbidden.
