Innsbruck, ich muss dich lassen

1485 song composed by Heinrich Isaac

Summary

"Innsbruck, ich muss dich lassen" is a German Renaissance song. It was first published as a choral movement by the Franco-Flemish composer Heinrich Isaac ; the melody was probably written by him. The lyricist is unknown; an authorship of Emperor Maximilian I, as was previously assumed, seems highly unlikely. Chester Lee Alwes writes that the song "became the gold standard of the Lied genre".

Rollback edit(s) by Gerda Arendt (talk): Reverting good faith edits: not so out of concerns about verifiability as of concerns about noteworthiness of this. There are surely many examples of different texts that are sung to the same melody. If it is not a close translation, there should be a good reason (such as popular usage, ...: all which require a secondary source) (RW 16.1)

provide a proper source for the German text (the previous source wasn't); restore simpler score & melody; tempo of <score> less funereal.
