Summary
Softball is a sport similar to and derived from baseball, but played with a larger ball, on a smaller field. Additionally, pitchers are only permitted to throw underhand to batters, the ball being released often below the belt line. Softball is played competitively at club level, the high school level, the college level, the Olympic level and the professional level. The game was created in 1887 in Chicago by George Hancock.
