Phil Robertson, the well-known face of the "Duck Dynasty" TV series, passed away at the age of 79. His son, Jase Robertson, confirmed the news on social media.  The cause of death was not specified.  The Robertson family is known for their duck hunting gear business, which served as the backdrop for their popular reality TV show.

    Robertson was born in Vivian, Louisiana, in 1946. He grew up in a large family and later attended Louisiana Tech University on a football scholarship. After earning degrees in physical education and education, he spent some time teaching in Louisiana schools.  He was not always the public figure he became later in life.  He was a teacher and an athlete before he became famous.  He was a quiet man before he became a reality TV star.

    Robertson's journey to fame began with his dissatisfaction with the quality of duck calls available in the market. In 1972, he created his own duck call, which became the flagship product of Duck Commander, the company he founded the following year.  Duck Commander is a duck hunting gear company.  It started with a duck call that Phil Robertson made.  He was not happy with the duck calls that were available.  So, he made his own.  It was a hit.  He started a company to sell it.  The company is called Duck Commander.

    The "Duck Dynasty" TV show, which aired from 2012 to 2017, featured Robertson and his family. The show was loosely based on their duck hunting business and became one of the most popular shows on cable TV.  It had as many as 12 million viewers at its peak.  The show was known for its unique humor and the family's offbeat antics.  It was also one of the first reality TV shows to openly admit that it was staged.  The family described it as "guided reality, " where producers would set up situations for the family to act out.  This approach helped to blur the lines between real and fake in reality TV.

    The family faced controversy in 2013 when Phil Robertson was briefly suspended from the show. This happened after he made statements that were seen as offensive to gay people. However, he was quickly reinstated after fans pressured the network and the family issued a statement.

    Robertson's health had been declining in recent years. In 2023, his son Jase mentioned on the family's podcast that Phil had early-stage Alzheimer's and a blood disease causing various health issues.  He was not doing well.  He had health problems.  He had Alzheimer's.  He had a blood disease.  He was not well.

    Robertson is survived by his wife, Kay, his sons Alan, Jase, Jep, and Willie, and several grandchildren.  He leaves behind a family.  He leaves behind a legacy.  He leaves behind a business.  He leaves behind a TV show.  He leaves behind a lot of people who loved him.
