New York City baseball fans are known for their passion and loyalty.  This passion was on full display in the recent Subway Series between the Mets and Yankees.  The main attraction was Juan Soto.  He had spent just one season with the Yankees before signing a massive contract with the Mets.  This move did not sit well with many Yankees fans, who made their feelings clear during the series.

The Yankees had high hopes for Soto after trading for him from the San Diego Padres.  He had already made a name for himself with the Washington Nationals, winning a World Series in 2019.  During his time with the Yankees, Soto performed exceptionally well, leading the American League in runs scored.  His strong performance and charismatic personality quickly won over the Yankees fanbase.  Many fans bought his jersey, hoping he would stay with the team.

However, the Mets had other plans.  They offered Soto a record-breaking 15-year, $765 million contract, making him the highest-paid athlete in North America.  This move was part of a larger strategy by the Mets to transform from a struggling team into a powerhouse, backed by billionaire owner Steve Cohen.  Soto reportedly turned down a similar offer from the Yankees, choosing the Mets instead.  This decision did not go unnoticed by Yankees fans, who were eager to show their disapproval.

The first game of the Subway Series between the Mets and Yankees was highly anticipated.  Both teams were at the top of their respective divisions, making for an exciting matchup.  However, the focus was on Soto and how he would be received by the Yankees fans.  As he took the field, the crowd booed loudly, turning their backs on him and hurling insults.  Soto, known for his cool demeanor, responded with a casual salute, seemingly unfazed by the hostility.

The boos continued throughout the game, with fans even altering their old Soto jerseys to express their displeasure.  Despite the negative reception, Soto had a solid performance at the plate, drawing three walks, stealing a base, and scoring a run.  However, the Yankees ultimately won the game 6-2, sending their fans home happy.  The series highlighted the intense rivalry between the two teams and the passionate fan bases that support them.

The Mets, under new general manager David Stearns, have focused on investing in position players while finding value in pitching.  This strategy has paid off, with the Mets boasting the best starting rotation ERA in the league.  Meanwhile, the Yankees, despite losing Soto, have assembled a strong offense and a solid pitching rotation.  The rivalry between the two teams is sure to continue, with both sides eager to prove their dominance on the field.
