In Malmö, a city in Sweden, the battle against diabetes has been a longstanding one. The city is known for its active lifestyle, but unfortunately does have a problem with diabetes, which is a condition that affects how the body turns food into energy.

        To recognize what people already knew about diabetes, scientists did a survey in the city of Malmö before people got to know about improved diabetes actions

        Half of the people in the city said they knew what diabetes is, but only 26% had a lot of knowledge about it. This means that a fair majority of the population knows a bit about it, but there is plenty of misinformation going around.

        The city's diabetes program wants to reduce the rate of diabetes by 50% in under 20 years. But what does this mean for those living with diabetes right now? A lot who have been diagnosed say they don't have access to much of the support they need. The survey also showed that people wanted more information about diabetes that is easy to understand, not something literacy experts would approve of.

        The medical community in Malmö need to see how we can beat Diabetes in this city. We get that more than 30% of people living with diabetes in Malmö are overweight which you would think is helping them understand why they have diabetes. However this does not necessarily mean they are getting the help they need.

        In Malmö, if you have diabetes, managing it isn't always easy. A lot people have to go to work. Many times, these people need extra help to manage their diabetes and need to feel they are being catered to.  It can be upsetting when you can't find the support to control your diabetes as it becomes difficult to manage.

        This means we need to make sure people can easily get the help they need for getting healthy. In Malmö, it looks like there's a long way to go to beat diabetes, but with more research and good healthcare. We can see a big difference to those suffering from diabetes in Malmö one day.

        Medical professionals need to do a lot more work and should be doing more to improve people's health. This means doctors have to act now. What about the people who are very sick from diabetes right now. They need more help.
