Get ready for a new historical epic that promises to bring the legendary Swiss marksman, William Tell, to life in a fresh and unexpected way. Directed by Nick Hamm, this adaptation aims to be the 'Gladiator' of crossbow movies, focusing on the iconic story of this folk hero.  But does it live up to the hype?  Well, that's what we're here to explore. 

Set in 1307 Switzerland, the film stars Claes Bang (known for his chilling portrayal of Dracula) as Tell, a seasoned huntsman returning home after the crusades, hoping for a peaceful life. However, his plans are disrupted when Austria, hungry for more land, threatens Switzerland. Tell, forced back into action, finds himself crossing paths with Gessler (played by Connor Swindells), the ruthless viceroy of Austria's brutal ruler (Ben Kingsley).  This sets the stage for a clash of wills and a battle for freedom.  

Swindells, best known for his charming role as Adam in Netflix's 'Sex Education', is embracing the villainous side in this film. He's excited to explore the darker aspects of Gessler's character, enjoying the freedom to portray a truly 'nasty piece of work'.  But how will his portrayal of this complex antagonist shape our understanding of the story?  Is there more to Gessler than just ruthless ambition?  

The film boasts a stellar cast, including rising stars like Jonah Hauer-King and Amar Chadha-Patel, alongside seasoned actors like Jonathan Pryce and Rafe Spall. This mix of talent promises a compelling and layered narrative.  But with so many talented actors, who will truly steal the show?  

'William Tell' is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10th. While a US or UK release date hasn't been announced yet, anticipation is building.  This new take on a classic tale could offer a fresh perspective on history and explore themes of power, rebellion, and the human cost of conflict.
