It was Musk's last official day as a special government employee, and Trump gifted him a large key inside a wooden box as a token of appreciation.

The White House has always maintained that Musk is not the formal leader of the DOGE office.  However, the billionaire has been its most visible champion.  Over the past year, Musk and Trump have grown close, with the president even inviting Musk to stay in the White House's famous "Lincoln bedroom. "  Musk's time as a temporary government employee has come to an end, and he plans to refocus on Tesla, the largest company in his extensive portfolio.  This shift marks a return to his entrepreneurial roots, where he continues to push the boundaries of technology and innovation.
