Fans of the game Grim Dawn have been waiting for a while. They were initially told to expect a major expansion called Fangs of Asterkarn in 2024.  That was not to be.  The developers have now shared an update.

The new expansion is set to be the largest ever for the game. It will have a vast world to explore. The area covered by Asterkarn will be roughly 3. 55 square kilometers.  That is about 110% larger than the previous big expansion, Ashes of Malmouth.  The new quest hub, Kurnhold, will span four zones.  This is a big jump from the 1. 5 zones in Forgotten Gods.

As of now, there are 47 main and side quests planned. This number is likely to increase as the developers add more content. Players will encounter 54 new bosses.  Eight of these will be Nemesis encounters.  These bosses will feature some of the most advanced mechanics the game has ever seen.

From these bosses and their minions, players can expect to find over 380 new unique items.  There will also be 120 monster infrequents.  This does not include the Awakened Epic items.  The developers are still working on this list.  There will also be Ascended common drops in Ascendant mode.  These have 33 unique tertiary affixes not found anywhere else in the game.

The expansion will also include two roguelike dungeons.  These will be added post-release.  They will expand the world and add more bosses and unique loot drops.  The developers plan to release Fangs of Asterkarn for the Xbox One at the same time as the PC version.  The Xbox version of Grim Dawn was launched in December 2021.  It included both Ashes of Malmouth and Forgotten Gods.

The developers have admitted that the release date might slip.  The expansion could launch late this year.  However, it might be delayed until Spring or even early Summer 2026.  The developers have noted that this expansion is much larger than previous ones.  They are pushing the game's engine to its limits.  This could explain the potential delay.  The developers have also mentioned that they are still working on some aspects of the expansion.  This could also contribute to the delay.

The developers have been transparent about the progress of the expansion.  They have shared regular updates with the community.  This has helped manage expectations and keep fans engaged.  However, the potential delay could be disappointing for some fans.

The expansion promises to be a significant addition to the game.  It will offer a vast world to explore, new quests, and challenging bosses.
