Systemic lupus erythematosus, or SLE, is a complex disease.  It is an autoimmune disorder that can affect various parts of the body.  One type of cell that plays a role in this condition is the monocyte.  These cells are part of the immune system.  They help fight infections and contribute to inflammation.
