Chickens raised in high-altitude areas face a tough time. The thin air leads to breathing problems, stress, and slower growth. Two substances, l-carnitine and emulsifiers, could help these birds thrive. L-carnitine is known for boosting energy and fighting off stress. Emulsifiers help break down fats, making them easier to digest. A study tested how these supplements affect chickens' growth, fat levels, stress, and overall health.

A group of 675 male chickens was split into nine groups. Some got l-carnitine, some got emulsifiers, and others got both. The results were clear. Chickens that received supplements gained more weight and ate less feed. Their bodies were leaner, with less fat around the belly. L-carnitine improved how the chickens processed fats, lowering bad cholesterol and raising good cholesterol. It also reduced stress markers and boosted genes that fight off stress. Emulsifiers, on the other hand, helped with fat digestion but didn't directly affect stress levels. Surprisingly, combining both supplements didn't always give the best results.

So, what's the takeaway? L-carnitine and emulsifiers can indeed help chickens grow better and stay healthier at high altitudes. L-carnitine is a superhero for stress and fat processing, while emulsifiers are great for fat digestion. However, more isn't always better when it comes to combining these supplements. It's all about finding the right balance.  The study did not include female chickens, so the results might be different for them. Also, the long-term effects of these supplements are still unknown. More research is needed to fully understand how these supplements work and if they're safe for long-term use.
