In recent times, fewer Americans are worried about crime. This is the second year in a row that concern has gone down. A recent poll by Gallup shows that nearly half of the people, 49%, think crime is a big problem. The same number of people believe crime has increased.

This drop in concern is notable. It's the lowest since 2018. Just a year ago, in 2023, a record 63% of Americans saw crime as a serious issue. This peak happened right after the pandemic.

People from different political backgrounds have noticed an improvement in crime rates since 2023. However, their views on how much crime has improved vary. The poll shows that 33% of Americans think there is less crime now. Meanwhile, 8% believe crime rates have stayed the same.

The poll also looked at how safe people feel in their neighborhoods. It found that 31% of Americans are afraid to walk near their homes at night. This number has been decreasing since it reached 40% in 2023.

Not everyone feels the same about crime. Women, low-income adults, and city dwellers tend to be more worried about safety in their neighborhoods. The poll surveyed 1, 000 adults across the U. S. earlier this month.
