This detail, however, was overshadowed by the right-wing media's eagerness to blame progressive policies. They ignored the fact that crime rates in many major cities, including New York, are at historic lows.

Prominent figures like Jesse Watters of Fox News directed their criticism at Zohran Mamdani, a Democratic candidate for New York City mayor. This was despite the current mayor, Eric Adams, also being a Democrat. The right-wing media's narrative seemed to be more about attacking a political opponent than addressing the actual issue of gun violence.

Meanwhile, Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana suggested bringing back aggressive stop-and-frisk policies, a tactic widely criticized for racial profiling. He also dismissed calls for more gun control laws, despite the country having hundreds, if not thousands, of such laws already in place.

The right-wing media's response to the tragedy was a classic example of deflection. They ignored the facts about declining crime rates and instead pushed a narrative that suited their political agenda. This strategy has been used by Trump and his supporters for years, exploiting fears and anxieties to gain political mileage.

The facts, however, tell a different story. Major cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago have seen significant reductions in crime rates. Yet, the right-wing media continues to paint a picture of urban chaos, a narrative that resonates with many voters despite its lack of basis in reality.

In the end, the tragedy in New York City became just another pawn in a political game. The right-wing media's response was a stark reminder of how quickly a tragic event can be exploited for political gain, rather than being used as an opportunity for meaningful dialogue and action on gun violence.
