When teens have friends with diagnosed mental health issues, it can affect their own chances of finishing school. They found that for academic students, having one classmate with a mental health diagnosis increased the dropout risk by 6%.  This risk rose to 10% with two classmates and 16% with three or more.  For vocational students, the risks were slightly different: 5% with one classmate, 11% with two, and 24% with three or more.  The indirect effect, where a student's own mental health diagnosis mediated dropout, was smaller than the direct effect of having classmates with diagnoses.
