High school sports in Fayetteville are heating up with volleyball and NCISAA boys soccer playoffs in full swing. Fayetteville Academy is making waves as the sole private school remaining in the state playoffs across all sports after two rounds of postseason action.

This week, the spotlight is on the top eight performers from Cumberland County. With football games scheduled on Tuesday and Saturday nights, the competition is fierce. Here are the nominees for the 910Preps Athlete of the Week for October 13-18.

Emerson Alvarado from Seventy-First soccer led his team to a perfect 2-0 week, scoring four goals and racking up nine points. Kwabena Asante of Village Christian soccer made a significant impact with a hat trick in the first round of the NCISAA 2A State playoffs against St. Thomas More.

In football, Ahmad Carmichael of South View had a standout week, scoring two touchdowns and making 10 tackles despite playing two games. Zoe Dorsey from Terry Sanford cross country secured the girls Tri-County conference championship with a impressive time of 20:47. 86 in the 5000-meter race. Sophia Hernandez of Jack Britt cross country claimed the girls Mid South conference championship with a time of 19:57. 38 in the 5000-meter run.

Cristian Simmons of South View football had an outstanding week, scoring five touchdowns and gaining 332 rushing yards in two games. Mac Teachey from Terry Sanford soccer contributed with two goals and an assist, totaling five points in a win over Scotland. Landon Underwood of Cape Fear football continued his impressive season with three touchdowns in a 50-21 victory against Gray's Creek.

Voting for the 910Preps Athlete of the Week is open to everyone and will close on Thursday, October 23 at 7 p. m. Coaches, athletic directors, and parents are encouraged to submit weekly nominees along with a headshot photo to jfmoore@gannett. com.
