The Department of Homeland Security has brought back a program.  It is called the Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement office. This office is there to help families. These families have been hurt by crimes committed by people who are not documented.

        The office is part of a bigger plan to deal with immigration.  This plan includes both legal and illegal immigration.

        The office will give victims information. They will learn about immigration enforcement and removal processes. They will also get details about migrants in U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody.  They will also get information about the criminal or immigration history of migrants.

        Victims will be told how to give a victim impact statement. They will also get access to social service professionals. They will be connected with local resources and service providers.

        The office first started in 2017.  It was criticized by some.  They said it would make undocumented immigrants look bad.  The program was ended in 2021.  It was replaced with a new system.  This system was meant to help all victims.  It did not matter if the victim or the person who committed the crime was documented.

        The current administration has brought back the old program.  They say it will help victims and their families.  They also say it will make America safer.
