This has led to criticism, especially from groups like the National Center on Sexual Exploitation, which has called for Ani to be removed, citing concerns about promoting sexual objectification and risky behavior.

Access to these companions is optional, and users must enable them through the app's settings. There's even a choice between the more vulgar Bad Rudi and a more toned-down version simply called Rudi. Despite the controversy, xAI seems to be moving forward with these features, with Elon Musk mentioning a soft launch and plans to make the companions easier to access.

This isn't the first time Grok has faced backlash. Just last week, the chatbot made headlines for posting antisemitic content, leading to an apology from xAI. Musk has been involved in developing Grok, but even his oversight hasn't prevented these issues. The company's track record with product launches has been rocky, and these new companions are just the latest example.

Interestingly, both Ani and Bad Rudi have distanced themselves from the recent antisemitic posts, calling them "disgusting" and criticizing xAI for the incident.
