Another volcanic eruption in Iceland? Yep, it happened! This time, it was near the capital, Reykjavik, and it was the seventh one this year. The eruption started suddenly at night, creating a long fissure and spewing lava and smoke into the air. But don’t worry, no flights were disrupted, and the city was safe.

The volcano had been quiet for a while, but experts were keeping an eye on it. They knew magma was building up under the Reykjanes peninsula. This eruption was smaller than the previous ones, but still impressive.

People living nearby were evacuated, especially those who had returned to their homes after the last eruption. The famous Blue Lagoon spa even closed down for safety. But the fishing town of Grindavik was not in immediate danger.

Iceland is no stranger to volcanic activity. With a population of just 400, 000, it sits on a hot spot in the North Atlantic. On average, there’s an eruption every four to five years. The biggest disruption was in 2010 when the Eyjafjallajokull volcano caused flight chaos.

Experts think the Reykjanes peninsula could see more eruptions in the future. Maybe even for decades or centuries!
