A courtroom drama has unfolded, pitting the estate of Michael Crichton against Warner Bros. Television.  The estate, holding rights to the medical drama "ER, " is not happy with the new show "The Pitt. "  The estate believes that "The Pitt" is too similar to "ER" and that Warner Bros. Television has not been fair in their dealings.

        The court was asked to dismiss the lawsuit, but it did not. The court looked at the timeline of events and communications and decided that the case should move forward.  It found that Warner Bros. Television might have messed with the estate's contract rights and infringed on the copyright of "ER. "

        Warner Bros. Television, however, says that the court hasn't decided anything yet.  They say the case will continue, but no decisions have been made.

        The lawsuit started last year when Max ordered 15 episodes of "The Pitt, " starring Noah Wyle.  The show is about healthcare workers in Pittsburgh.  The estate believes that Warner Bros. Television is trying to get around Crichton's rights to the "ER" franchise.

        The estate claims that Warner Bros. Television tried to make a deal for an "ER" reboot but failed.  Then, they created "The Pitt" instead.  The court agreed that the estate's claims aren't totally without merit.

        Evidence in the case includes a letter from Warner Bros. Television in 2022 offering to resume the series.  Crichton had a special clause in his contract that stopped any productions based on "ER" without his consent.  The estate enforced this, leading to an agreement that included a credit for Crichton as the creator of the series.

        Sherri Crichton, Michael Crichton's widow, is confident that they will win the case.  She believes that the court has rejected Warner Bros. ' attempt to avoid responsibility for breaching the contract with Michael Crichton.
