A Legal Eagle's Run-In with a Pierogi Vendor
Alan Dershowitz, a prominent lawyer, faced an unexpected refusal at a farmer's market when a vendor declined to sell him pierogi due to his political beliefs.
The Incident
Dershowitz, known for defending high-profile clients, believes the vendor objected to his representation of Donald Trump during the impeachment trial. Additionally, the vendor may have taken issue with Dershowitz's support for Israel, as he was wearing a shirt that read, "Proud American Zionist."
After being turned away, Dershowitz spoke out, urging other customers not to support a vendor who discriminates based on politics. He drew parallels to refusing service based on race or gender.
Police Involvement and Potential Legal Action
Police arrived, and Dershowitz engaged in a conversation with an officer, asserting his right to free speech and stating he might pursue legal action if the market permits such discrimination.
Market Response and Past Conflicts
Dershowitz mentioned the market might revise its policies to prevent similar incidents. Neither the vendor nor the market has commented on the matter.
This isn't Dershowitz's first clash on Martha's Vineyard. Last year, he had a heated exchange with comedian Larry David, who disapproved of Dershowitz's ties to Trump allies.
