AI is here—but do people really trust it?
United States, USASat Jun 06 2026
Artificial intelligence is changing how people work, study, and interact every day. Some experts call it the biggest shift since the Industrial Revolution, and big tech companies are pouring money into AI tools. Yet most Americans aren’t rushing to embrace it. In fact, they’re five times more likely to feel worried than excited about AI, according to a 2025 survey by Pew Research Center.
Many people fear AI could weaken creativity and make real human connections harder. Over half think AI might hurt people’s ability to think originally, and most believe the dangers outweigh the benefits. Still, people aren’t totally against it. They’re okay with AI helping in areas like weather forecasts, medical research, and simple daily tasks. The message seems clear: AI is useful, but it needs careful handling.
Younger generations use AI more, but they’re not necessarily fans. Adults under 30 are far more familiar with AI tools than older adults. Yet a 2026 Gallup survey found Gen Z’s excitement has dropped sharply in just one year. More now worry AI could hurt jobs, thinking skills, and work quality. Nearly half say AI risks in the workplace are greater than its benefits—and many prefer work done without AI help.
