Big Bear Mountain Resort Kicks Off Ski Season with Perfect Weather

Big Bear Mountain Resort is now open for the season! The weather on opening day was just right. Temperatures stayed in the low 40s, and the sun came out, making the skies a beautiful deep blue. It was a great start to the ski season. People from all over Southern California showed up. Some even camped out to be the first ones on the slopes. Jon Coulson, who came from Sugarloaf, arrived at 6 a. m. but found others had beaten him to it. "I was not the first; there were people camping out here, " he said. Skylar Padilla from Riverside heard about the opening through Instagram. "We found out a couple days ago and decided we had to go, " she said. The resort has only had one small snowstorm this season, but it was enough to get things started. Justin Kanton, a spokesperson for Big Bear Mountain Resort, explained that manmade snow can sometimes be better than natural snow. "We can control the density and layer it just right, " he said. The resort opened on Thursday, and Snow Summit will open on Friday.
