Dolly Parton's Big Heart: Giving Back to Her Community
Sat Oct 05 2024
If someone stepped up and offered a helping hand whenever there was trouble. Dolly Parton is one of those people. She recently showed up at a Walmart parking lot in Newport, Tennessee, with a big surprise. She decided to donate $1 million from her personal savings to help the folks affected by Hurricane Helene. But wait, there's more! Another $1 million will come from her businesses like Dollywood and Dolly Parton's Stampede. That's a total of $2 million going to the Mountain Ways Foundation.
Dolly is no newbie when it comes to helping others. She has been doing this for years. Remember the floods in Middle Tennessee back in 2021? Yep, she donated money for that too. And how about the vaccine research at Vanderbilt University in 2020? You guessed it – another $1 million from her. Plus, she started a fund called My People Fund in 2016 to help families hit by wildfires in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.
But wait, there's even more! Dolly also created something amazing called the Imagination Library way back in 1995. This library sends a book every month to kids from birth until they start school. Isn't that cool?
John Furner, who is the president and CEO of Walmart U. S. , was at the event too. He announced that Walmart, along with the Walmart Foundation and Sam's Club, would be giving over $10 million to help with relief efforts. That's a lot of money!
Dolly has always been close to her community. She loves her mountains, valleys, rivers, and especially her people. During the event, she said something really nice: "I am totally with you, I am part of you, I love you. " Isn't that sweet?
