Equal Rights Amendment: A Step Forward

President Joe Biden has been a long-time supporter of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), believing that no one should face discrimination based on their sex. On January 27, 2020, Virginia, the 38th state, ratified the ERA. This means that three-fourths of the states have now approved it, which is what's needed to amend the Constitution. The American Bar Association and constitutional experts agree that the ERA is now part of our Constitution as the 28th Amendment. It's high time we acknowledge what the majority of Americans want. As President, Biden has a duty to uphold the Constitution. He believes, and rightly so, that the ERA is now law, guaranteeing equal rights to all Americans regardless of their sex.The ERA has a long history. It was first introduced in Congress in 1923, but it took decades for it to gain enough support. It's important to remember that the ERA isn't just about women's rights; it's about equality for everyone. It ensures that laws can't treat people differently based on their sex. There are still debates about the ERA. Some argue that the deadline for ratification has passed, making it invalid. Others believe it's still valid because the Constitution doesn't specify a deadline. These arguments show that the fight for equality isn't over yet.
