'Family‑Friendly Southern Eats Now Open in Mars Hill'

Mars Hill, USAThu Mar 05 2026
'In the quiet hills of Madison County, a new spot has appeared on the map for local diners. BoRudy’s Grill, opened on February 8 by Lisa Rice and her daughter‑in‑law Ashley Rice, offers a menu that feels like a cozy kitchen at home. The restaurant’s name comes from Lisa’s sons, Ashley’s husband Brent and Andrew—nicknamed Bo and Rudy—and the flagship dish, the BoRudy burger, pays tribute to them. Breakfast is a highlight, with biscuits and gravy, eggs, hash browns, and pancakes ready to go each morning. The menu also includes Southern staples such as fried bologna sandwiches, tomato slices on a roll, and a variety of burgers and hot dogs. Lisa says the goal is to serve “stuff that people here in the South love to eat. ”
The Rices view their venture as more than a business. Lisa, who grew up in Upper Laurel and has been ordained since 1999, sees the grill as a ministry. “If we touch one person and make their day better, our job is done, ” she explains. Ashley adds that pricing matters; a one‑topping pizza costs just $10, enough for a family of five. Community events are part of the plan. On April 10 the grill will host a free Spring Fling for families, featuring cotton candy, popcorn and a mechanical bull. Ashley, who drives the local elementary school bus, said she wants kids in the area to have fun activities. The restaurant also offers a wedding ceremony on March 27, allowing couples to marry right inside the dining room. BoRudy’s Grill is located at 11120 U. S. 23, open daily from 7 a. m. to 7 p. m. , and promises fresh food, friendly service and an inviting atmosphere where children can play on the floor while adults enjoy a hearty meal. '
