A blaze on the 300 block of West Juniata Parkway in Greenwood Township turned a family’s house into rubble, taking the lives of two dogs and leaving residents without shelter. Firefighters from the Millerstown Fire Company arrived around 11 a. m. after county dispatch received multiple alarm reports. They battled the flames for about four hours, but a lack of water supply—caused by cold weather and snow that blocked access to the Juniata River—made their job harder. The crews had to travel to hydrants in Millerstown and Newport, which slowed the fight against the fire.
The house was completely destroyed. The family that lived there was not home when the fire started, so no one could be rescued from inside. Unfortunately, the dogs that lived with them were also lost in the inferno. All of the family’s belongings, including furniture and personal items, were taken by the flames.
A GoFundMe page set up by someone close to the family asks for help. The post says that a three‑person household, including two children, is now without a place to live. Contributions are needed for clothes, temporary housing, food and other essentials. The page urges anyone who can to donate and share the link with friends and family.
The cause of the fire remains unclear. The Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal is still investigating to determine what started the blaze.
