In the chilly morning of Wednesday, an Irmo family found themselves in a real-life nightmare when their home caught fire. The blaze, believed to have started in a small crawlspace underneath the house, spread rapidly. Brady Davis, who was home at the time, recalled the terrifying moment. "I thought it was just a bad dream, but it was real, " he said. Brady and his mother, Heather, were asleep when the fire began. Heather first noticed something unusual around 1 a. m. but couldn't find the source and went back to sleep. She woke up again around 5 a. m. to the sight of smoke and flames. With no time to waste, they grabbed their dogs and rushed out into the snow, calling for help.
Heather described the fire's speed, "It moved up the wall and across the ceiling. Within minutes, it had taken over most of the house. " Despite the smoke alarms not going off, their quick thinking saved their lives. Brady pointed out, "We had just a few more minutes before the smoke would have knocked us out. " The Davis family lost almost everything in the fire, but they're grateful to be alive. They plan to rebuild their home, knowing they had a close call. The Irmo Fire District is still investigating the exact cause of the fire as of January 27, 2025.
