In the world of restaurants, nostalgia plays a significant role in our emotional connections to the places we frequent. For Minnesotans, the thought of classic restaurants that have vanished brings back fond memories of childhood trips with family. The National Restaurant Association estimates that there are over 11,100 restaurants in Minnesota, generating over $15 billion in sales. Amidst this competitive landscape, it's exciting to see the revival of a beloved chain like Steak and Ale, which was founded in 1966 and had several locations in Minnesota before closing its last location in 2008.
The story of Steak and Ale's revival began when Dallas-based restaurant group Legendary Restaurant Brands acquired the intellectual property and rights to the chain, along with its sister chain, Bennigan's. The group's CEO, Paul Mangiamele, chose Minnesota as the first location for the new Steak and Ale because of the Twin Cities' reputation as a great restaurant town. The new location in Burnsville is attached to the Wyndham Hotel and features many of the same recipes that fans of the original chain will recognize. While the new Steak and Ale has updated its menu to reflect modern tastes, it has also retained the basic DNA of the original recipes. This blend of old and new is sure to delight fans of the classic chain. Legendary Restaurant Brands plans to expand the Steak and Ale brand to other parts of Minnesota, with the goal of having around 15 locations across the Midwest.
