In a twist of global events, South Korea finds itself in a tricky spot. Seoul's spy agency recently revealed that North Korea might send 10, 000 troops to Russia by year's end. Just one day before, US and South Korean officials reported that around 3, 000 North Korean troops are already training in Russia. South Korea's President Yoon Suk Yeol met with Polish President Andrzej Duda to talk defense, especially after the North's alleged move. Both Russia and North Korea deny these claims, but President Yoon isn't sitting tight. He's prepared to work with allies, rolling out countermeasures as needed.
South Korea is even considering arming Ukraine, a big step from their previous non-lethal aid. The tension on the Korean Peninsula has been rising since 2022, with Kim Jong Un using the Ukraine situation to speed up his nuclear program. Seoul's worried about North Korea getting advanced tech from Russia, like ICBM and submarine know-how. During the meeting, Yoon and Duda agreed to boost military supplies to Poland, including a deal for K-2 tanks. Poland has been beefing up its military with South Korean gear after Russia's Ukraine invasion.
