Jim Farley, the head of Ford, recently shared some surprising insights about electric vehicles (EVs). He admitted that after taking apart a Tesla Model 3, he was amazed by its design. The Tesla had much less electrical wiring than Ford's Mustang Mach-E, which made it lighter and more efficient. Farley also talked about the competition from Chinese carmakers. He said they are as advanced as Japanese automakers were in the 1980s. This is a big deal because Japanese cars were known for their quality and innovation back then. Despite this, Ford is not giving up on EVs. Farley said that EVs are crucial for Ford to stay relevant globally. However, he also mentioned that EV adoption in the U. S. might be slower than expected, around 5%, due to current regulations favoring gas-powered vehicles. Ford has been facing some challenges lately. They had to stop production of their F-150 Lightning, the best-selling EV pickup truck, because of aluminum shortages and profitability issues. Additionally, Ford has had a lot of recalls, with 134 marks for 2025. Farley sees these recalls as an opportunity for improvement. He believes they can help Ford become better in the long run. Despite these setbacks, Ford is still optimistic about its future in the EV market.
