Elkhart’s downtown buzzes again on Saturday mornings, as the city’s farmers market opens its gates on May 2. The event runs from nine in the morning until one in the afternoon, and it will stay on the calendar through September 26. Last year, people who visited almost tripled in number, with more than two thousand shoppers showing up each week. The surge shows how much the community loves fresh food and local flair. Around 190 sellers made a splash last season, bringing breads, flowers, handmade crafts and other goodies to the stalls. On average, about fifty vendors are on display each Saturday, giving shoppers a wide array of choices.This marks the ninth season for the market, and it has become more than a shopping spot—it’s now a social hub. The manager noted that the market “has grown into a place where folks meet, support local businesses and enjoy downtown life. ” Live music plays on the RiverWalk each week, turning the market into a lively family outing. Special theme days add extra color to the Saturday morning scene, making it a favorite downtown activity for both residents and visitors.
