Las Vegas Tops Nevada for Active Living

Nevada, USA, Las Vegas, Reno,Tue Mar 03 2026
Las Vegas has earned a spot as the most activity‑friendly city in Nevada, according to a recent study. The analysis looked at how many sports facilities each city offers per resident and how much people spend on fitness. It also considered how many adults stay active, whether they bike or walk to work, and how easy it is for people to find workout partners. The city ranks sixth nationwide, just behind Los Angeles. It earns a solid fourth place in the sports and outdoor category, meaning it has plenty of swimming pools, ice rinks, basketball courts, playgrounds and similar spots. Its budget score is 18th; this looks at gym costs and the percentage of people who are inactive. Las Vegas also has a good share of workers who walk or bike, which helps keep the city active.
Reno, on the other hand, is known for its great hiking and skiing just a short drive away. Still, it falls 37th in the overall list. It is 42nd for budget and participation and 36th for sports and outdoor amenities. The city’s distance from downtown exercise options may explain its lower ranking. The top ten cities for an active lifestyle across the United States are: Honolulu, New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Cincinnati, Denver and Madison. These places offer a mix of indoor facilities, outdoor trails, walking paths and bike lanes that encourage residents to move more. At the opposite end of the spectrum, some cities struggle to support an active life. North Las Vegas is one example that ranks poorly in the same study, showing how neighboring cities can differ sharply in their health offerings.
