Oklahoma's Bible Bid: A Musical Connection

In a surprising turn of events, Oklahoma is on the hunt for Bible suppliers. But these aren’t just any Bibles – they need to meet specific criteria that align with former President Donald Trump’s endorsed versions. The state wants Bibles that include the Pledge of Allegiance, the Declaration of Independence, and copies of the US Constitution. This narrows down the choices significantly.
One Bible that fits these requirements is Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” Bible. You might know Greenwood from his hit song, which was a favorite at Trump rallies. This particular Bible goes for $60 online, and some of the proceeds go to Trump himself. There’s another option too – the We The People Bible, costing $90 each, also endorsed by Trump.
Ryan Walters, Oklahoma’s state superintendent for public instruction, is pushing hard for this. He wants a Bible in every classroom and teachers to teach from them. His 2026 budget even asks for $3 million to buy 55,000 copies. Some people are worried about the specifics of the bidding process. They think it might lead to legal challenges because there aren’t many Bibles that meet these criteria, and all the ones that do were endorsed by Trump.
Walters has been making headlines with his strict rules for public schools. He ordered schools to teach both the Bible and the Ten Commandments. He also doesn’t want LGBTQ issues taught in schools. Some conservative groups support him, but others think he’s just doing this to get attention.
