As the world becomes increasingly dependent on digital communication, the need for a more advanced messaging system has become apparent. RCS (Rich Communication Services) is a game-changer, offering a more feature-packed experience compared to traditional SMS. But are your iPhone-using contacts taking advantage of this technology?
Typing indicators, read receipts, faster sending and receiving, better quality images and videos, and message reactions are just a few of the benefits of RCS. However, the adoption rate of RCS is still slow, especially among iPhone users. This is because RCS is not a default feature on Apple devices, unlike on Android.
In the US, the three major carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon) have already enabled RCS, along with some regional carriers and MVNOs. In the UK, EE and MVNOs that use the EE network also support RCS. However, the picture is different in Europe, where Apple has a dedicated support page for RCS.
But what about the iPhone users who are still waiting for an update to iOS 18? Are they missing out on the benefits of RCS? The answer is yes, but it's not all doom and gloom. While iOS 18 is the first version to enable RCS, it's up to the carrier to activate the function. This means that even if you have an iPhone with iOS 18, RCS might not work.
