Singapore is taking big steps to improve life for migrant workers. These workers play a huge role in building the country. They work in tough jobs like construction and shipyards. Now, the government is making plans to give them better healthcare, housing, and fun activities.
Healthcare is getting a big boost. More clinics will open soon. This means workers won't have to travel far to see a doctor. A new online system will also help employers sign up workers for healthcare plans. These changes will start in 2027. The healthcare plan covers many things. It includes check-ups, medicine delivery, and even telemedicine.
Housing is another big focus. A new dormitory called NESST Tukang just opened. It has better facilities than old dorms. Workers there get more privacy and better food options. The government is also building more dorms. These will house 45, 000 workers in the next few years. This is a big deal because old dorms were very crowded. During COVID-19, this caused many problems.
Fun and social activities are also getting better. Two volunteer programs will merge into one. This will help more workers get support. New recreation centers will open soon. These centers will offer sports, entertainment, and cultural events. Workers will also get training. They can learn English and digital skills.
The government is working with many groups to make these changes. They want to make sure workers feel valued. On International Migrants Day, the minister thanked workers for their hard work. He said these changes are just the start. More improvements are coming in the next few years.
