Teens today face different struggles than adults did
Sun Jun 07 2026
Many adults believe young people today are less tough than past generations. They point to rising anxiety rates and wonder why teens can’t handle life like they used to. Most grew up without constant updates on their social lives, where a forgotten group hangout only mattered by Monday morning. Now, every event, photo, or comment spreads instantly, making social ups and downs feel bigger and harder to escape.
The same questions teens have always asked—Who am I? Do I belong? Am I enough? —still matter. But now, those questions come with numbers attached. Followers, likes, and comments turn personal struggles into public scores. Most adults wouldn’t handle that kind of pressure either. Judging teens as weak just shows how little we grasp their world. If we want to guide them, we first need to see their reality clearly.
Teens aren’t failing—they’re dealing with a world that never stops watching. They still need rules, responsibility, and tough love. But they also need adults who get what it’s like to grow up with a phone in hand. A safe space where they don’t have to perform or impress could be the biggest help of all. Behind the screens and stress, many teens still show incredible strength, pushing forward despite the noise around them.
