The Farmers’ Almanac, a beloved guide for farmers, gardeners, and weather lovers, is saying goodbye after 208 years. The final edition will be published in 2026, marking the end of a long-standing tradition.
The decision to stop comes from the tough times in today’s media world. The Almanac’s team says it’s getting too hard to keep up with the costs of making and sharing their work. The website will close down in December 2025.
The Almanac started in 1818, offering weather forecasts, fun facts, and tips on gardening, cooking, and more. It was known for its long-range weather predictions, which were based on a secret formula. This formula included things like sunspots, moon tides, and planet positions.
The Almanac claimed its weather predictions were 80 to 85% accurate. However, this claim has been questioned over the years.
The end of the Farmers’ Almanac is a big deal. It was one of the oldest continuously published magazines. But don’t worry, the Old Farmer’s Almanac, a different publication, is still around.
The editor, Sandi Duncan, shared that even though the Almanac is ending, its values will live on. These values include simplicity, sustainability, and a connection to nature.
