Virginia’s newest golf getaway is taking shape with a second course designed by Tiger Woods’ team, adding fresh excitement to an already upscale resort. The existing property already draws visitors with its seven villas and eight cottages, all part of a private getaway where guests can book short stays or enjoy golf-focused getaways. More homes are in the works—22 villas and 34 cottages—meant mostly for members, though visitors can still book rooms nearby. The twist? Only one golf course, Cutalong, is open to general guests. The new course, still under wraps, is reserved for members only, meaning casual players won’t get access unless they sign up. What makes this second course special is its dramatic setting. Built along old mining grounds from the 1800s, where workers once searched for copper, gold, and iron pyrite, the land tells a story long before golfers set foot on it. The course winds through rolling hills, thick forests, and farmland, all with views of Lake Anna in the distance. Stretching over 7, 300 yards at its longest, it’s meant for challenging experienced players while still being fair for beginners. The designers promise a mix of uphill and downhill shots, sharp turns, and wide-open views that change with every hole.The first course, Cutalong, follows classic golf design principles inspired by old-school architects like Donald Ross and Alister MacKenzie. These designers shaped golf’s early golden age, focusing on strategy over brute force. The new course, though, flips the script by using the land’s natural twisty shape—valleys, slopes, and rocky spots—to make each turn feel fresh. Instead of forcing bunkers and water hazards everywhere, the designers let the environment do the hard work. This kind of golf course doesn’t just test skill; it tells a story. The land used to be worked by miners, now repurposed for sport instead of extraction. That contrast alone makes this project more than just another golf course—it’s a nod to history while building something new. Woods’ design firm, TGR Design, has built similar courses before, including one in Utah’s Marcella community. Cutalong was their first major project with Reef, the group behind this Virginia resort.
