Revived Greyhound Hub Brings New Life to Philly Bus Travel

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USAThu Apr 30 2026
Philly’s old Greyhound stop at 10th and Filbert Streets is set to open its doors Friday after a three‑year pause, welcoming the first FlixBus from Richmond at 12:20 a. m. The revamped terminal now houses 189 chairs for passengers to escape the weather, replacing the earlier curbside spots on Spring Garden Street. Though the iconic Greyhound logo still graces one side, the building has been renamed The Philadelphia Parking Authority Transportation Center. The $5 million overhaul was led by the PPA, working with the city’s Office of Transportation and Infrastructure Systems. The new complex sits on a little over an acre, expanding the number of bus bays from nine to eleven. Inside, travelers find a comfortable waiting room, vending machines offering food and drinks, restrooms, ticket counters, staff offices, and a dedicated area where drivers can rest. Plans for a small café space are already sketched out.
Bright windows and better lighting give the interior an airy feel, a sharp contrast to the dim, bunker‑like vibe of its predecessor. City officials and Mayor Parker pushed for a functional temporary terminal in time for the World Cup, other sporting events, and the U. S. 250th birthday celebrations. PPA’s involvement began last October, with a formal partnership signed in December. The authority holds a ten‑year lease on the property from 1001-1025 West Filbert Street L. L. C. , with an option to extend. Councilmember Curtis Jones Jr. praised the speed and cooperation that brought the project to life, noting it set a new standard for future collaborations. Construction kicked off in January, installing modern heating, cooling, and plumbing systems. While the Filbert Street station will operate for at least a decade, city planners continue to evaluate over 200 potential sites for a permanent intercity bus hub.
