Tiny Silver‑Carbonate Particles Boost Healing and Fight Infection in Diabetic Mice
Scientists created tiny flower‑shaped silver carbonate particles and a mix of silver with that carbonate using a gentle chemical reduction. The powder kept its crystal shape and the silver was successfully blended in.
When they tested the particles in normal mice, the animals showed normal blood counts, liver and kidney numbers, and fat levels, meaning the materials were safe at the doses used. In diabetic mice that were given the powder, blood sugar started to drop noticeably from the seventh day onward. Insulin, the thyroid hormone T3 and the hormone T4 all rose compared with untreated diabetic mice at days fourteen and twenty‑eight.
The antioxidant tests showed less harmful MDA and more activity of protective enzymes like superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione after four weeks. In a small wound made in diabetic skin, the injury closed by day nineteen for the control group, day seventeen for the silver‑only group, and day fourteen for the silver‑carbonate combo. These results point to faster healing when the combined material is applied.
Both particles killed bacteria in a dose‑dependent way, and the silver‑carbonate mix created zones up to about seventeen millimeters wide when the concentration reached one hundred micrograms per milliliter. Overall, the silver‑carbonate nanostructure outperformed the plain silver carbonate in multiple biomedical tasks.
