The EPA has reduced its workforce from over 16, 000 to around 12, 500 employees. Despite having fewer staff, Zeldin believes the agency is achieving more. He emphasized focusing on essential tasks and cutting unnecessary bureaucracy. Zeldin criticized the previous administration for giving billions to environmental groups. He alleged that these groups had ties to political figures and had conflicts of interest. Under Trump, the EPA has canceled over $29 billion in grants. Zeldin contrasted the Trump approach with what he called the Kamala Harris administration's plan. He said that the previous administration believed strangling the economy was necessary to protect the environment. He strongly disagreed with this idea.
