Canada, Salmon ArmThu Mar 13 2025
A young boy from Okanagan is making a splash in the world of fundraising. Jack McNeil, a 10-year-old from Salmon Arm, has been on a mission to raise $10, 000 for cancer research. He has already completed a 2. 5km swim and a run from Salmon Arm to Enderby. This journey started with a simple goal of raising $1, 000, but Jack's determination and community support have pushed him much further. Jack's journey began with a run from Salmon Arm to Enderby, which he completed in November. This event raised $1, 295 in pledges. Inspired by Terry Fox, Jack decided to continue his fundraising efforts. He then set his sights on a swimming challenge. With the help of his coach, Greg Perkins, Jack swam 2. 5 kilometres, or 100 lengths of the public pool. This swim was a significant achievement, taking him just 1. 5 hours to complete. Jack's swim was not just a physical challenge; it was also a community event. He had the support of senior swimmers from the Columbia Shuswap Selkirks Swim Club, who cheered him on and even joined him for the final laps. Jack's efforts have raised nearly $10, 000, with just $400 left to reach his goal. The donation page remains open, and the community's support has been overwhelming. Jack's mother, Lana McNeil, has been a driving force behind his efforts. She encouraged him to set higher goals and explore different challenges. Jack's sister, Charlotte, is also inspired by his actions and is considering her own fundraising initiative. The family is exploring options that align with Charlotte's love for animals and the environment. Jack's journey has had a ripple effect on the community. His efforts have inspired others to think about how they can give back. The support he has received has been incredible, from financial contributions to online encouragement. Jack's story is a testament to the power of community and the impact one person can have. Jack is already looking ahead to his next initiative. While there are no firm plans yet, he is considering another run, possibly with the support of his friends. The community's response to his efforts has been overwhelming, and Jack is eager to continue making a difference.
