The Department of Health and Human Services had promised to restore these cuts. They claimed they would bring back personnel and capacity. For a brief moment, it seemed like things were looking up. The program began accepting new applicants again, giving hope to those who had been waiting. But this hope was short-lived. Just a week later, the agency made more cuts, ensuring that participants would continue to be denied the care they are entitled to.

This is not the first time that promises have been broken. The current administration has a history of cutting programs and services, often under the guise of reducing waste. But these cuts come at a high cost. They affect real people, people who need help and support. The 9/11 responders and survivors are not statistics. They are individuals who have already suffered greatly. They do not have the time to wait for the administration to make decisions. They need care now, and they need it to be consistent.

The program's resumption of enrollments is a positive step, but it is not enough. Without the staff to run the program and approve treatments, it is just an empty gesture. The administration needs to understand that you cannot run a government program with no personnel. The people who were affected by 9/11 deserve better. They deserve the care and support that was promised to them. It is time for the administration to step up and fulfill these promises.
