The way these pulses behave depends on how fast the Earth's crust is pulling apart. In some places, like the Red Sea, the pulses move more smoothly, like blood flowing through a narrow tube.

This new understanding shows that what's happening deep inside the Earth is connected to what's happening on the surface. It affects volcanoes, earthquakes, and even how continents break apart. The scientists are now trying to figure out how fast this molten rock is moving and how it's shaping the Earth's surface.
