Billy Joel's life has been a rollercoaster of highs and lows.  He is known for his music.  He is also known for his personal struggles.

He once had an affair with a friend's wife.  This was back in his 20s.  The friend was Jon Small.  Small was also his bandmate in Attila.  The wife was Elizabeth Weber.  The affair led to a lot of pain and guilt for Joel.  He felt like a homewrecker.  The couple had a child together.  Small was upset when he found out.  He punched Joel in the nose.  Joel felt he deserved it.

Joel's life took a dark turn after the affair.  He became depressed.  He even tried to end his life twice.  The first time, he overdosed on sleeping pills.  His sister, Judy Molinari, gave him the pills to help him sleep.  He took them all and ended up in a coma.  Molinari was devastated.  She thought she had killed him.  The second time, he drank a bottle of lemon Pledge.  Small, despite their falling out, took him to the hospital.  Joel later realized he could use his emotions to create music.  He checked himself into an observation ward.  Small forgave Joel eventually.  Joel and Weber got married later.  They were together from 1973 to 1982.

Joel has been married four times in total.  His first wife was Elizabeth Weber.  His second wife was Christie Brinkley.  His third wife was Katie Lee.  His current wife is Alexis Roderick.  Brinkley recently talked about their time together in her memoir.  She released it in April.  It is called "Uptown Girl. "  Joel has also dealt with health issues.  He has a rare brain disorder called normal pressure hydrocephalus.  He was not at the premiere of his documentary.  It was at the Tribeca Film Festival.  The documentary is called "Billy Joel: And So It Goes. "  It will be on HBO Max later this summer.
