The national anthems of both countries played as Trump chatted with the crown prince.  Trump even wore a purple tie to match the royal theme.

After the formalities, it was time for a traditional coffee and tea ceremony.  Trump, known for his love of Diet Coke over coffee, accepted a small cup of coffee.  But here's where things get interesting.  He didn't take a sip.  Instead, he placed the cup on his lap and looked around awkwardly while others enjoyed their drinks. Some people thought Trump was worried about being poisoned.  Given the attempts on his life, it's not hard to see why some might think this. It's worth noting that in Saudi culture, offering coffee to guests is a sign of hospitality and respect.  During Trump's visit, the crown prince and other officials enjoyed their coffee under large portraits of the Saudi royal family.  This tradition dates back centuries and is a deeply ingrained part of Saudi hospitality.

Trump's visit to Saudi Arabia was more than just a coffee cup moment.  He spent two days in the country before heading to Doha, Qatar, and then Abu Dhabi.  The visit was part of a broader diplomatic effort to strengthen ties between the U. S. and Saudi Arabia.  The coffee cup incident, while amusing, was just a small part of a much larger picture.
