The European Union is making a significant investment in the future of science.  They are setting aside 500 million euros.  That is 567 million dollars. They were speaking at an event called "Choose Europe for science. "  Macron was quite direct in his criticism of the recent actions taken by the US.  He referred to the cancellation of hundreds of research grants and the changes to science policy as a "mistake. "

        Von der Leyen echoed Macron's sentiments.  She spoke about the importance of science in today's world and the need for investment in fundamental, free, and open research.
